About Us
Sandy Hill Child Care has been accepted into the City of Ottawa’s Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care System(CWELCC) which allows us to continue to offer a high quality child care program at a reduced rate.
At Sandy Hill Child Care it is our belief that each child is a competent, capable and curious being. With this theory in mind, it is our intention to provide an environment that will foster belonging and well-being, as well as engagement in the program with the opportunity for individual expression.
Sandy Hill Child Care will also be encouraging children to actively explore and investigate what they are curious about, test their limits and take manageable risks appropriate to their age and development levels in our indoor and outdoor spaces.
This year, Sandy Hill is trying a new approach to learning. We have implemented a more basic back to nature program, which allows the children to explore a variety of items such as: logs, bark, pine cones, cat tails, pussy willows, rocks, bird nests and much more. This exposure will encourage children to have the confidence to explore in a safe environment with their peers or with some teacher direction.
Sandy Hill Child Care has been in existence since 1973. We are a licensed facility that can accommodate 44 children total.
We offer a toddler program and a preschool program. Our hours of operation are 7:30am-5:45pm. As a result of our long standings in the community, we are currently enrolling second and third generation children!
Our centre offers an up to date security system, which provides the staff with the ability to monitor who is allowed entry to the centre.
Sandy Hill Child Care supports students from our local high schools, colleges and universities. This keeps our program current, fresh and diverse.
Board of Directors
Sandy Hill Child Care has a board of directors. The purpose of the Board is to maintain financial accountability to all parents. We meet on regular basis.
Meet The Super Team
Pam
My name is Pam Benoit. I have been employed at Sandy Hill Child Care since 1997 and I took over as Director in 2015. I am registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators fully bilingual. I am a proud Nan and mother to 2 children and grandsons. I love animals and have 1 rescue cat and 1 rescue dog. I love to spend my weekends at home or at the trailer. My goal is to continue to offer a dynamic, play based environment for children to learn and grow in.
Sylvie
I was born and raised in Northern Ontario. In 1987 I came to Ottawa to pursue a career as an early childhood educator. I’ve been employed by Sandy Hill Child Care since 1993. I have seen many little faces throughout the years. My day is typically divided between the children, the staff and assisting Pam with managing duties. When I’m not playing Candy Crush or reading, my time is spent with my daughter Chloe and dog Marshall.
Sharon
Hi, my name is Sharon Arthur, I am a teacher at Sandy Hill Child Care. I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and came to Canada in 1988 at the age of 18. I worked as a nanny for 4 years before joining the daycare. I’ve been working at Sandy Hill Child Care for a combined total of 25 years, during which time I’ve gotten married and had three children. My oldest child is my son Shane who is 23, I also have a daughter named Kieryn who is 19 and my youngest daughter Casai who is 17. Throughout all these years there’s never been a dull moment working and I wouldn’t change the daycare for anything.
Raja
My name is Raja Darwish. I have been in Canada for 15 years, I have a wonderful husband and 3 handsome boys. They are 9, 13, and 18 years of age. I’ve been involved with childcare work for 11 years. I dealt with children of various ages, needs, and personalities. I worked with infants and children up to 12 years of age. I started as a nanny and established a positive relationship with both children and parents. After that i spent time working with the OCDSB school board, and had an amazing time with both junior and senior students. Furthermore, I was a supply teacher with multiple daycares and gained numerous experience dealing with children. I’m very grateful to be a part of this wonderful team. Working with children is a personal joyful experience which makes me smile.
