About Us

Sandy Hill Child Care has been accepted into the City of Ottawa’s Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care System(CWELCC) which allows us to continue to offer a high quality child care program at a reduced rate.

At Sandy Hill Child Care it is our belief that each child is a competent, capable and curious being. With this theory in mind, it is our intention to provide an environment that will foster belonging and well-being, as well as engagement in the program with the opportunity for individual expression.

Sandy Hill Child Care will also be encouraging children to actively explore and investigate what they are curious about, test their limits and take manageable risks appropriate to their age and development levels in our indoor and outdoor spaces.

Sandy Hill is trying a new approach to learning. We have implemented a more basic back to nature program, which allows the children to explore a variety of items such as: logs, bark, pine cones, cat tails, pussy willows, rocks, bird nests and much more. This exposure will encourage children to have the confidence to explore in a safe environment with their peers or with some teacher direction.

Sandy Hill Child Care has been in existence since 1973. We are a licensed facility that can accommodate 44 children total.
We offer a toddler program and a preschool program. Our hours of operation are 7:30am-5:45pm.  As a result of our long standings in the community, we are currently enrolling second and third generation children!

Our centre offers an up to date security system, which provides the staff with the ability to monitor who is allowed entry to the centre.

Sandy Hill Child Care supports students from our local high schools, colleges and universities. This keeps our program current, fresh and diverse.

Board of Directors

Sandy Hill Child Care has a board of directors. The purpose of the Board is to maintain financial accountability to all parents. We meet on regular basis.

Meet The Super Team

Pam

Pam

My name is Pam Benoit.  I have been employed at Sandy Hill Child Care since 1997 and I took over as Director in 2015. I am registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators fully bilingual. I am a proud Nan and mother to 2 children and grandsons.  I love animals and have 1 rescue cat and 1 rescue dog. I love to spend my weekends at home or at the trailer.  My goal is to continue to offer a dynamic, play based environment for children to learn and grow in.

Sylvie

Sylvie

Hello, my name is Sylvie. I am a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) with over 30 years of experience at Sandy Hill Child Care. Throughout my career, I have served in various roles, including toddler and preschool teacher, as well as a cook. On a typical day, you will find me moving around the center, assisting both staff and children. I prefer this hands-on approach over working at a desk.

Born and raised in Northern Ontario, I am fully bilingual and have a passion for outdoor activities. As a mother of a 24-year-old daughter with Tourette Syndrome, I am a dedicated advocate for this cause. Additionally, I am a “fur” mom to a 4-month-old puppy who keeps me occupied during my leisure time.

I look forward to meeting you and your most cherished treasure—your child.

Sharon

Sharon

Hi, my name is Sharon Arthur, I am a teacher at Sandy Hill Child Care. I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and came to Canada in 1988 at the age of 18. I worked as a nanny for 4 years before joining the daycare. I’ve been working at Sandy Hill Child Care for a combined total of 25 years, during which time I’ve gotten married and had three children. My oldest child is my son Shane who is 23, I also have a daughter named Kieryn who is 19 and my youngest daughter Casai who is 17. Throughout all these years there’s never been a dull moment working and I wouldn’t change the daycare for anything.

Raja

Raja

My journey in childcare began as a nanny, where I built strong and positive relationships with both children and their families. I then had the privilege of working with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB), supporting both junior and senior students in their growth and learning. Additionally, I gained valuable experience as a supply teacher for multiple daycares, further enhancing my ability to connect with children from infancy to 12 years of age.

Throughout my career, I have developed a deep passion for working with children, as it brings me immense joy and fulfillment. I am truly grateful to be part of this wonderful team and to continue contributing to a positive and nurturing environment for the children in my care. Making a difference in their lives is not just a job for me—it’s a rewarding and meaningful experience that always brings a smile to my face.

Luiza

My name is Luiza Gomes. I am from Brazil, and I have been living in Canada for the last 5 years. I studied literature for 4 years back home and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.

After graduating, I worked there as an educator in regular and bilingual schools with all ages, including children and adults with special needs. During those years I realized how much I loved working with younger children and decided to pursue this path. I was glad to be welcomed to Sandy Hill Childcare in 2019 and for all the amazing experiences I have had so far. The children have played an important part in making this journey easy and bringing me an everyday portion of joy.

Besides it, I love nature, arts and crafts, learning a new language, travelling, and spending time with my husband and our little Jack Russell.
